Successes in a Tight Finish for Harrogate League Teams: August 11th 2011
As we entered the last week of the league season our teams had plenty to play for. The 1sts and 2nds were both looking to clinch League Champion spots and the 3rds needed one more win to be sure of avoiding relegation. It's all going to plan.....so far....
1st Team : Division 2 Champions!!:
A late surge with 6 wins out of the last 7 matches has earned the 1st team promotion back to Division 1 at the first attempt. All 6 team players have been on great form in recent weeks and with 2 big wins to finish, they are champions by virtue of rubbers average.
2nd Team: Division 3: Champions Also!!:
The second team have led Division 3 from start to finish this season and have clinched the title with one match to spare. There has been some tough opposition throughout and four matches were won 5-4 at the death.
Third Team: Division 4: One more point please!:
After a flying start, a run of injuries has led to a string of defeats. A more settled team has drawn 2 recent matches and one more draw (tonight v Ripon) will be enough to avoid relegation.
Fourth team: Division 6:
At the start of the season, we wondered if we had enough men to keep fielding four teams in the event of injuries etc. The 4th team men have worked overtime in helping to keep the third team fully manned - and their own team could just squeeze into the top half of the enlarged Division 6 at the end of the season.
